As adults we are presented with a lot of different problems and situations that can be scary and confusing to children. When dealing with family case lawyers greenbelt md, divorces, deaths in the family and more getting a child to understand what is going on can be frustrating. Here are some tips to help get you through.
Don’t hide it
When dealing with these issues the first thought is to hide the issues from the children. On the surface this might seem like a good idea, but you can only keep this up for so long. When we hide things form our children, they will quickly get a sense that there is something wrong. The best advice on this is to let them know what is going on and don’t sugar coat it.
Talk to their age, don’t dumb it down
When talking to our children about these subjects we tend to use simple terms and words that we feel that they will understand. Children today are very smart and know a lot more today than we did as children. So, talk to them at their age level and don’t try to dumb things down. Let them know you love them and that everything will be okay.
Don’t over compensate
When having issues adults will tend to over compensate for their issues. This can be buying your children expensive toys, letting them get away with things you wouldn’t otherwise allow them to get away with and really slacking off as a parent. Just because you are having issues doesn’t mean that you can’t stop being a parent. It will be a fine line you must travel in order to make it work but over time it will even itself out.
Just love your kids. You and they will both need it and at the end of the day it will be the best thing that you can ever do for them.
